Troubled residents come and go at the Care House where River Caulfield is a caregiver, working towards fulfilling his dream of becoming a nurse. When Silver arrives, a patient found on a roadside near death after suffering terrible abuse, River finds his previous personal detachment is compromised. Seeking to help the mysterious and enigmatic young man locked inside his own mind and memories, River finds his professionalism slipping as Silver begins to open up and live again.
But as their relationship begins to blossom, the roots of Silver's past abuse and the abuser who forced him into such a mental state sends forth new shoots of darkness enveloping them in dangers threatening not only Silver's sanity, but their very lives. With River's devotion and help, will Silver finally be able to break away from his past? The answer lies in the words of a priest, a painting and a long walk through a churchyard harbouring the secrets of the enigma that is Silver.

I’d recommend this book for the most part, as it was a page turner, for sure, in terms of me wanting to see the relationship build for Silver and River. I can’t give it a full 5 stars simply because after around 80% it seemed as if the book felt as if it should’ve been finished.Something I didn’t understand was the whole finger cut situation. I don’t think any adult this day in age is dumb enough to suck another human being’s blood if they get a cut. Too much worry about you could catch, even if you like someone. Parents kiss their children’s wounds better but that’s a bit much for River to be doing to a grown man who’s not a child and doesn’t want to be treated like one, and given Silver’s situation, I would’ve thought he might’ve had a relapse or something when it was mentioned. The logical thing to do is run the wound under the sink and get a first aid kit or something of that nature. I understand that River was attracted to Silver, but again, that seemed out of place for either character to let happen and it seemed like it didn’t fit with their characters personalities, like maybe the author was prompted to place that information in there as some sort of fan service, which brings me to the other situation:
In all honesty, I feel like this book could’ve ended at chapter 16 and most of what happened afterwards could’ve been in an epilogue or something (excluding Faith’s scenes of course) to include like a “Life After” sequel for this book because the story kind of lost it’s thunder after the first climax. And I know there are other books, but that’s just how it felt when reading it for me. I feel like after the hospital situation with meeting Sam, everything became very much River telling instead of showing for a while, and then eventually dialogue came. It was enough to make me skip ahead through River’s thoughts thinking I wouldn’t miss much. I was disappointed that I was correct.
I feel like Faith returning was meant to be sort of a “Ha, reader! Thought they lived happily ever after, didn’t you?!” But it came across as more of a “Okay, it’s dragging on critically now.”
Still, it was a good read. Could’ve been shorter, though, as it dig start to drag.

Enigma edition by Nephy Hart Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is the third book I’ve read by this author and she never fails to tug at the heart strings with her beautifully created characters and their moving stories.
Silver from Enigma is no exception. He’s a stunning creature, inside and out, who’s suffered terrible things and yet is so strong that despite his struggles, you just know he’ll make it out the other side eventually.
River is the sweetest, most caring man with his own share of inner pain that helps him understand what Silver has been through, and makes him the perfect person to help him through, even though it quickly blurs the lines of River’s professional relationship with his “patient”.
You’ll be taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions throughout Enigma, with Silver and River’s individual agonies, their growing feelings for each other, the beautiful sparks of life you see beginning to come through in Silver, and the shocks of what happens when Silver’s past catches up with him. I was hooked from the first few pages and can honestly say this is one of the most moving stories I’ve read this year.
Enigma gets a very well deserved 5 stars.
If I could give this book a separate rating just for suspense, it’d get 5 stars. The mystery begins on the first page and is sustained in some form across 100,000 words – including a major shift of setting at the halfway mark. Even in the spots where the writing faltered, I felt engaged in the story and what would happen next.
Otherwise, Enigma is a solid B. There are a few inconsistencies and dropped details, but nothing so careless as to really distract a reader (IMO), and Silver is an interesting MC thanks to the circumstances of his illness. I found River to be an acceptable protagonist, if somewhat heavy-handed with the flowery praise; the supporting characters speak in a much more natural way, and Julia is a delight.
That said, those of you who are sensitive to abuse themes should steer very clear of this title. There’s unfortunately no getting around them here even if the rest of the premise interests you.
This is one of the best stories I've reads in ages. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.
I haven't cried reading a book in a long time. This book did that. I cried, I laughed. This book is a diamond in the rough. The author worked magic with the characters. I don't even know how to describe it, it was just an absolute amazing book.
This story is extremely moving. I cried. And I loved the happy ending. Brava to this author And what a relief. None of the typos and grammar errors of so many in this genre
I purchases the book before any reviewer mentioned triggers. I knew from the description that Silver's past would be rough and there would be some suspense. But things actively happened in the book that I never would have wanted to read and if I would have known I would never have purchased the book. The book is well written and the characters engaging so 4stars but the lack of warning for the sensitive content has put me off this author.
Possible Spoilers; I could NOT put this one down! From the 1st I was really needing to know if Silver was going to be ok. I did have some concerns that the initial relationship between River and Silver may get a little funky due to the circumstances of their meeting but fortunately that was handled very well. I was absolutely in love with Silver just as everyone in the book was. The idea of a person who could come thru everything he did and still be a whole human wasn't made to be unbelievable. Yes, a lot happens to these MCs but the author plays it in such a way that it doesn't feel like 'OMG are you SERIOUS' kind of way if you know what I mean. Also, I felt like everything was wrapped up really well except for one thing but it's pretty minor and didn't really detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. I'd definitely recommend this but be sure to read the description and I'll be checking into other stories by this author.
